This paper was prepared for the Wageningen 2010 IKM conference and was subsequently published as a working paper under the IKM Emergent banner.  It canvasses the fact that traditional management practices based on analytical toolkits are not appropriate or effective in the wicked problem spaces that are typical of development work (certainly not as the primary mode of thinking and interacting), and proposes a different set of  knowledge tools and processes more appropriate to wicked problem spaces.
