The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the world’s leading organization working for the rights of children, is inviting applications for the this position. 
 
PURPOSE OF THE POST 
Under the general guidance of the Communication Manager, responsible for coordinating UNICEF Ethiopia presence in a number of digital platforms (such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, BlibTV, Delicious, Slideshare, Yammer, blogs and wiki’s). The post identifies and creates conversations around issues related to UNICEF’s mandate and engage followers in a dynamic, interactive and meaningful way. The consultant will make recommendations regarding the use of current and future social media channels. 
 
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POST INCLUDE: 
1. Social media content development: Gather, initiate, edit and develop content (stories, photos and audio visual material) to be posted on the social media platforms and Intranet (Ethio Icon) and Internet. And assist with implementation of new Internet (Reddot 2) structure. Development, production, and distribution of monthly electronic newsletter to key target stakeholders integrating the output from social media with offline activities of UNICEF Ethiopia.

2. Social media management: Develop and manage UNICEF Ethiopia social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, the country’s Intranet -Ethio Icon- , Internet and possibly a digital newsletter, including posting of messages, photos and story contents, either routinely, ad hoc or in line with a meeting, visit, event or campaign.

3. Communication capacity building with staff members: Coach UNICEF Ethiopia staff members with the use of social media. Coach and assist with the training of UNICEF Ethiopia staff regarding content development and photography

4. Monitoring and evaluation: Set up monitoring tools to assess traffic generated to UNICEF Ethiopia social media platforms and how this translates in action from the users. Manage and maintain list with passwords / access / expiry dates of social media platforms used by UNICEF Ethiopia. Provide reports to the communication manager on the amount and quality of content being created and provide recommendations on what can be done to improve our on-line presence.  Keep track of initiatives by other UN agencies, NGO’s, partners and donors that may be relevant to our work. Create and maintain a publishing schedule of content on UNICEF Ethiopia social media and digital platforms.

5. Strategic planning and UNICEF communication: Develop, implement and manage UNICEF Ethiopia strategic approach to social media. The consultant, in collaboration with colleagues, will draft a Social Media Strategy including workplan. Develop and maintain key strategic digital media partnerships with top content influencers in the UNICEF domain. Produce an annual plan to communicate and set common objectives with these external partners.

6. Knowledge management and knowledge generation: Maintain photo and video library of AV production produced and disseminated. Outreach to relevant academic and/or broadcasting institutions to foster and tap into research on how our partners, donors and youth use social media. Document work flow and process related to social media, Intranet and Internet management and posting.

Job Requirements

Education requirements: Advanced University degree* in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, International Studies, Social Sciences or equivalent professional work experience in the social media, knowledge management, communication or IT area, combined with a university degree in a related discipline. *A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience: Five years progressively responsible work experience in Communication, including three years in Social Media, with practical experience in the adaptation and application of communication planning and dissemination processes to different targets.
- Strategic communications: Experience in developing and maintaining strategic communication partnerships with external organizations (other UN agencies, multilaterals, media, donors)
- Editorial skills: Writing and editing skills in digital media is mandatory with progressive experience in writing for the web and producing content for social media. Photo and video editing skills an asset. 
- Content Management: Experience in creating and managing content for websites including developing an editorial plan and technical skills in using a Content Management System (CMS) to maintain a website. Experience with integrating social media plugins, apps, and APIs an asset.  Experience in web and social media monitoring tools highly preferred. 
- Project Management: Experience in project management highly with demonstrated success in managing IT and/or communications projects.
Language requirement: Fluency in English and in the local working language of the duty station required. Knowledge of another UN language is an asset
Nationality: Candidates should be NATIONALS of Ethiopia.
