This position is within the Learning and Knowledge Exchange Unit, in the Policy Section of the Division of Data, Research and Policy (DRP).

DRP seeks to advance the evidence base on children, what works to achieve results, and why; foster policy dialogue and action to support child rights; identify key emerging issues requiring new approaches; facilitate learning and knowledge exchange, including through South-South cooperation, in support of these objectives; and support the development of UNICEF’s strategic plan and RBM guidance. 

The Learning and Knowledge Exchange Unit has the mandate to support formal and informal learning, and to promote sharing, uptake, application and adaptation of explicit and tacit knowledge, within the organization (among UNICEF staff) and beyond (among partners and others working for the realization of children’s rights) including through fostering of South-South Cooperation.

How can you make a difference?

Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Learning and Knowledge Exchange, this position takes the lead in defining requirements for knowledge exchange tools (methodologies) and platforms for the capture and sharing of tacit knowledge, oversees their initial development and revision over time. The position drafts and/or edits relevant guidance, and supports the application of tools and platforms for learning before, during and after action.

This includes:

  1. Overseeing or conducting development of digital workplace platforms and tools for knowledge exchange
  2. Drafting and editing guidance
  3. Supporting the application of learning before, during and after action
  4. Contributing to knowledge sharing fora
  5. Managing vendor relationships

To qualify as an advocate for ever child, you will have...

  • An advanced University degree in an information or knowledge management-related discipline (e.g. library science, information science, records and archives management, etc.) and/or Advanced University degree Social Sciences, Public Administration; International Relations or related field.
  • At least 5 years of progressively more responsible experience in information/knowledge management and/or organizational learning systems, including experience with intranet/internet, information retrieval technologies, document classification and management, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including preparation of guidance, communication materials and presentations for diverse audiences.
  • Experience conducting procurement processes – including identification of needs, definition of terms of reference, management of request of proposals, contracting and vendor relations management.
    The work requires knowledge of the work of UNICEF and the issues affecting women and children in developing countries.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
