Background & Rationale

UNICEF’s work on child marriage is a corporate priority and embedded in UNICEF’s Strategic Plan (2014-2017). This corporate commitment provides a favorable institutional environment for expanding work on ending child marriage through the ‘UNFPA-UNICEF Global Programme to Accelerate Action to End Child Marriage’ (GP). The GP covers 12 countries and is being delivered jointly through UNFPA and UNICEF from 2016-2019. The endorsement of the Gender Action Plan (2014-2017), by the UNICEF Executive Board, has further reinforced the inextricable linkage between child marriage and gender inequality. Child Marriage is one of the four pillars of the Gender Action Plan and aligns with global priorities. It is also a global target (target 5.3) in the Sustainable Development Goals. While included within the mandate of the child protection and gender sections, UNICEF recognizes the need for collaborating with other sections to achieve results, such as Education, C4D, Health, HIV and Social Protection, all within the framework of Headquarters, Regional and Country offices and partners.

Purpose

The UNFPA-UNICEF Global Programme to Accelerate Action to End Child Marriage- under the administration of UNICEF Child Protection section- is seeking an experienced Knowledge Management Specialist to support the design of the knowledge management strategy and implementation of internal and external knowledge sharing platforms for the UNFPA-UNICEF Global Programme to Accelerate Action to End Child Marriage.

The Knowledge Management Specialist will also support the activity of developing effective mechanisms for knowledge sharing on the Global Programme sharepoint (team site) and other related works. The consultant will build on work already done on the Global Programme team site and support the further development of core content and structure to ensure that the communication and knowledge base of the Global Programme materials is shared, regularly and on a sustained basis with key internal and external stake holders.

In addition, the Knowledge Management Specialist will support the production, roll out and effective delivery of high quality knowledge sharing and web-based products for the Global Programme.
