CONSULTANCY - Delivering an online training and support to facilitate a Community of Practices on plastic reduction

Background

IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) is implementing a variety of projects to reduce plastic pollution around the globe. Part of this work is being rolled out in the Mediterranean region, where several NGOs and conservation organisations are identifying best practices for plastic reduction, as part of the PlastiMed BeMed project.

So far, the project has helped to improve the knowledge on the circulation of plastics in the Mediterranean. The Monaco Ocean Week 2022 saw the first steps for developing a Community of Practices (CoP), which will seek to strengthen knowledge exchange between the different partners that build the network of a newly established association, called BeMed.

In 2023, the PlastiMed BeMed Capitalization phase aims to train the members of the BeMed initative to become CoP facilitators, so the exchange of practices can be upscaled across the Mediterranean region, as well as to maintain the community active.

The aim of this consultancy is to support the development and growth of the Community of Practice by:

Delivering a training workshop for the members of the BeMed initiative to become CoP facilitators (end of February/beginning of March 2023, preferably online, hybrid also possible)

Providing training on how to sustain and dynamise the community of practices

Following up and monitoring the learning process in the months afterwards, especially to solve queries

The maximum budget available for this consultancy is €7,500 (VAT and all other taxes incl.)

You can find the full terms of reference here:
https://iucn.org/sites/default/files/2023-01/tors-training-support-to-facilitate-a-community-of-practices-for-knowledge-exchange-plastimed.pdf

Deadline for applications: 3 February 2023

Should you be interested, please send an e-mail to Ms Mercedes Munoz : mercedes.munoz@iucn.org

Knowledge Management Specialisttag:www.km4dev.org,2023-01-09:2672907:Topic:2241872023-01-09T19:23:58.885ZAllison Saracinahttp://www.km4dev.org/profile/AllisonSaracina

About the US Forest Service Office of International Programs
The US Forest Service International Programs promotes sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation internationally. By linking the skills of the field-based staff of the U.S. Forest Service with partners overseas, the agency can address the world’s most critical forestry issues and concerns. International Programs regularly engages the agency's wide range of expertise. Wildlife biologists, forest economists, hydrologists, disaster and fire management specialists, and policy makers are among those who comprise the staff of over thirty thousand employees. Since international cooperation is necessary to sustain the ecological and commercial viability of global forest resources and to conserve biodiversity, most of our work is done in collaboration with other organizations. Our partners include US Government agencies, multi-lateral institutions, non-government organizations, universities, and international governments. The United States benefits from our work overseas. Innovative technologies are brought back home, cross boundary environmental problems are addressed, and opportunities to hone U.S. Forest Service skills are increased. We also support domestic economic and conservation interests through our work on combating illegal logging, protecting migratory species’ habitats, and controlling invasive species. The current challenges facing U.S. forestry community require a global approach.

Project Context and Scope
The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), agreed in 2018, led to the development of the United Nations Network on Migration (Network). The Network, consisting of various partners within and outside the UN system, provides effective, timely and coordinated system-wide support to Member States for the implementation, follow-up and review of the GCM. In this regard, the “Migration Network Hub” (Hub) was established as a virtual “meeting space” and knowledge repository for governments, stakeholders and experts to access and share migration-related information and services.

Network members oversee the work of the Hub through Core Working Group 1.2, which is
chaired by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Global Migration Data Analysis
Centre (GMDAC).

Objective of assignment
The consultant will analyse existing processes within the Migration Network Hub and propose a strategy for how knowledge management could be strengthened to facilitate the sharing of information and lessons learnt from a wide range of stakeholders and across countries/regions.

The strategy would focus on ensuring the sustainability - including widespread use, uptake and renewal - of the Hub and Network products, using knowledge management processes.
