New Call for Papers: Breaking the boundaries to knowledge integration: society meets science within knowledge management for development

Dear All

We are looking for contributions for the September 2013 issue of the KM4D Journal. The link to the Call for Papers is here: KM4DJ_call_for_papers%20September%202013.pdf

We are looking for contributions on:

- Knowledge integration and co-creation:
- Knowledge production in ‘non-traditional’ knowledge institutions, such as consultancy firms, think tanks and NGOs;
- Knowledge production by citizens and civic organisations looking to build counter-expertise;
- Joint processes initiated by non-academia (government, industry, public, NGOs) or scientists;
- Integration of multiple knowledges linked to the perspectives and roles of the various stakeholders: individual knowledge, local specialised knowledge, organisational knowledge and holistic knowledge (Brown 2011). This is by no means easy because of the different frames of reference and differences in opinion. Some stakeholders’ knowledge will be implicit, neither written down (codified) nor put into words;
- Participation of stakeholders in the process and in the design of the solution.
- Combination of methods which take into account the complexity of the system such as actor analysis, causal analysis, and system analysis;
- Encouragement of mutual learning in focus groups, round tables, expert sessions, stakeholder dialogues etc.
- Contributions focusing on local scientific, cultural and political practices.

The Guest Editors team who will be working with me on this issue comprise: Valerie Brown, Sebastiao Ferreira, Wenny Ho, Barbara Regeer and Marjolein Zweekhorst.

Submission deadlines are as follows:
Submission deadline for the title and abstract 15 April 2013
Acceptance of paper proposal 30 April 2013
Submission of full paper 15 June 2013
Peer-review completed 31 June2013
Final version of paper submitted 31 July 2013
Publication date 1 September 2013

Please send your submissions and questions to

So people are starting to show up here... terrific. We'll need to resolve the issue of getting an article easily shared. Sarah, any ideas on that?

Hi Ewen and Nancy

YES, I would love to join the journal club (not as facilitator but as interested reader and commenter), thanks for your initiative.

NO I do not have access to the journal (T&F will be happy).

Cheers, Claudia

A few people have asked how to join this group. You need to join the KM4Deve NING site first, and then this group. Here are three screen shots to walk you through the process. The first is from -- the home page. The second is from the registration page you go to when you click "join" and the third is this Journal page where, in the upper right hand corner, you can join this group. Holler if you have any questions.

Hi Ewen,

I have access to volumes 5-7. I would be interested in a monthly article chat. Look forward to hearing more about this.

Can some of you please check to see if you have full access to all volumes of the journal? If that's the case it's great (according to T&F policy, it shouldn't be the case actually)!

Nancy just posted this idea on the mailing list:

It might be fun to have a little side group to discuss one or more articles each month. Maybe on our NING site as a way to also see how we can have some side conversations and weave them back into the larger communities. Anyone interested in a journal club? Organizing a first conversation focus?

Gada Kodada and Tariq Zaman already indicated their interest... Anyone up for joining/ leading this?

Best wishes

I wanted to ask a question, and it seems I  have to be a member of this group in order to do that. So, is this the place to inquire about/request/apply for such membership?

While I'm at it, my question concerns backissues, prior to Taylor and Francis taking over: At the latter site, it appears that only vol. 5 and later is available. What about vols. 1-4?

PS. This all started because it seems that an article I co-authored for vol. 2 appears to be available with different page numbers.

Appel à contributions : Invitation à publier votre article !
Premier numéro francophone du “Knowledge Management for Development Journal”

Le journal anglophone “Knowledge Management for Development” existe depuis 2005.
