Water for Life Solutions (W4LS) is looking for a Learning and Knowledge Management Coordinator who will be the key contact for coordination of all the learning and knowledge management components of the contract. His or her duties must include but not be limited to planning and overseeing the implementation of learning and knowledge management activities, mobilizing experts to respond to task requests, furnishing the required reports to USAID, and meeting with the COR and activity managers as necessary. This position will be based out of Nairobi Kenya

Background/ Project Description

The Horn of Africa faces severe and complex challenges, including recurrent droughts and conflicts. The 2011 food security crisis in the Horn of Africa was a stark reminder that insufficient attention has been given to addressing the root causes of vulnerability in the drylands of the region. Following quickly upon the 2008-2009 drought, the 2011 drought resulted in alarming spikes in acute malnutrition and the widespread and rapid deterioration of food security. At the same time, decades of underinvestment have left the region’s arid districts highly vulnerable to the challenges of climate change, food insecurity, and conflict.

The goal of the Resilience Learning Project is mutual learning and knowledge management leading to a supportive policy environment and increased impacts of programming on drought resilience and growth.

These objectives must be advanced through five intermediate results:

1) Resilience-enhancing technologies and innovations disseminated;

2) Models for integrating humanitarian and development assistance developed and tested;

3) Collaboration, Learning, and Adaptation (CLA) approach catalyzed;

4) Knowledge management capacity of regional, national, and local institutions strengthened; and

5) Gender issues that are key to resilience and growth incorporated at all levels.

Learning and Knowledge Management Coordinator Qualifications and Requirements

• The Learning and Knowledge Management Coordinator must possess the technical leadership, capacity, and experience to provide vision, direction, and leadership to learning and knowledge management activities.
• The Learning and Knowledge Management Coordinator must have an advanced degree in a relevant field, such as agriculture, international development, international affairs, business, communications, journalism, knowledge management, adult learning, instructional design and teaching, or a related area.
• The Learning and Knowledge Management Coordinator must have at least 7 years of progressively responsible work experience the area of knowledge management
• The Learning and Knowledge Management Coordinator must have 3 or more years of experience working with online communities and web-based systems for knowledge sharing and/or collaboration.
• The Learning and Knowledge Management Coordinator must be familiar with the key principles of food security, resilience, and agriculture-led economic growth.
