After the Assessment: How the Analysis can have an Impact on the Organisation

The benchmarking exercise could be a starting point to :

Creating awareness, getting people on board , discussion, reflection
Defining what the organisation is good at, reinforcing areas where it is not good at defining where it should invest
Determining a strategy for KM/KS and allocate resources for the implementation of the programme

The assessment results can also be used for example for:

Measuring the status of learning within the organisation or later on evaluate changes after a number of interventions
Setting priorities and "quick wins"
Defining what are the deeper cultural problems are
Comparing with other departments or organisations
External communication (with e.g. field offices) or for PR purposes
Creating common understanding of the complicated KM/KS concept
It can also be used as a track record on how the organisation is developing when the exercise is repeated
