  • Title of the Project: Assessing a KS/IM self assessment
  • Project leader: Maarten Boers, ICCO (Netherlands)
  • Brief description: Based on the ideas of Collison and Parcell (Learning to Fly) define a common view about the central capabilities needed for effective KS/IM and scaling them into 6 levels (from basic performance to world level). Once this not so simple job has been done the assessment of these capabilities within the group can be done, resulting in an overview of whom can learn what from another group member. The scores can be shown graphically in a "river diagramme" thus showing clearly where could be the greatest potential for the group to learn from each other.
  • Current stage: The "River Diagramme" is described in the book Learning to Fly. I myself have applied it once with some of my colleagues (financial officers). This experience learnt me much but also left me with several questions. By applying the method to a group of KM4dev'ers and simultaneouslydiscussing it, it must be possible to get ideas about how applying it in a better way.
  • Estimated work time needed: For sure 9 hours will be needed to go through the whole cycle.
  • Output: Depending on what the project group would like to do, we could do two things: 1) refine this tool for use by KM4dev'ers in their own surroundings; or 2) aim at an assessment of the community itself by asking all community members to do the self assessment on the basis of the defined capabilities.
  • Experience/skills sought in potential collaborators for the project: No other skills or experiences are needed than one can expect from members in the KM4dev community.
  • Logistical needs: It can be helpful to work with a beamer, but it is not essential.
