CHALLENGES FACED BY ORGANISATIONS USING IT FOR KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT

Knowledge is of limited organizational value if it is not shared. The ability to collect, integrate
and apply specialized knowledge of an organization’s members is fundamental to a firm’s ability
to create and sustain competitive advantage. However, organisations do face some challenges in using IT for knowledge management.

Therefore, i understand that one of the major problems or challenges may be;

1.lack of identifying the proper IT tool as well as lack of training.

Is there any other biggest challenge you know that organisations face??

hi PRECIE
I think our colleges have said it all especially with security ,lack of trained personnel etc. I think this focuses on one part which is the explicit ,but with tacit the challenge is that we cannot determine the type of tools to use because this type resides in people s head it is very difficult to disconnect it from the bearer

I think in this regard the organisations should bear in mind the the skills, capabilities, training needs etc and the existing system to deliver proper service and production.

Hi  Precoius Botsele. I came across a few challenges when using IT for knowledge management, I hope they will be useful. The challenges are as follows:

  1. Security. if important knowledge is not secured its very easy for unknown users or hackers to view or steal some of this important information stored in your system to use it however they want for their own personal gain.
  2. Technology integration and upgradation. IT is always changing and upgrading so organizations need to be up to date with their systems at all times and this can be quite expensive.
  3. There also is a significant challenge in adequately planning and financing the use of ICT in development programs knowledge management.
  4. Lack of affordable connectivity and bandwidth.
  5. Lack of trained technical support.
  6. inadequate care or mistreatment of IT knowledge management systems.
