I recently had the pleasure to support projects managed by the USDA FAS and the USAID Tanzania Mission. The workshops I was asked to lead presented an awesome opportunity to practice using new-to-me methods, and I was incredibly pleased with the results. The first was Graphic Recording- the room was full of representatives from different implementing partner teams, all with a different role in the project. Two key outcomes came of this method 1) there was a visual of how the different, most critical, project components interacted with one another which illustrated along an 8x5 foot sheet the complexity of the project design and 2) all partners through this process were able to identify the most critical outputs and outcomes for measurement. This allowed us to craft the building blocks of a results framework and align indicators for measurement that would be reported at the project level.

A second and even more fun method was using the Liberating Structures Minimum Specs exercise to build consensus and rules for a project level M&E system. These rules are critical, as they will help to complete the design of the system, hold partners accountable to quality data, and helped partners from different groups to work together cooperatively and lay the foundation for cooperation necessary for project success.

I was lucky to travel with a professional photographer who captured this time stop video of the graphic recording process--watch that project grow! https://youtu.be/sFpFDt5_J8k

Capacity building around M&E is a professional passion of mine and I am so excited for the upcoming start of a new session for the online course I instruct at WSU--there are still spots open, it starts on Feb 19th, don't wait to join a stellar set of your peers in learning more about leveraging M&E for adaptive program management.

Hi Nancy,

I will do so! I am on the list, and will post a short note today or tomorrow! Thanks for the encouragement.

Best,

Kim

Hi Kim

I'm sorry I did not see this sooner -- I am thrilled to see you are using graphic facilitation and Liberating Structures. I think the larger KM4Dev community would love to see this. Would you consider posting on the KM4Dev DGroup email list? (Not on the list? Go to the home page here and look on the left for the joining link).

Thanks again

Nancy
