Organizational Knowledge Sharing approaches and tools

Dear All,

My name`s Roberta and I am a KM Consultant who has worked for several international organizations (recently IFAD). I hope I am writing in the correct section as I am kindly asking for your expertise in terms of organizational knowledge sharing in order to increase awareness and knowledge among Staff and Stakeholders on specific knowledge products such as: delegation of authority manual, Organizational Manual, Directives Handbook and so forth. In particular, I am looking for good practices concerning an effective dissemination of the documents above-mentioned, tools, structure of knowledge sharing events etc...

Anyone that could help me with this?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hello All,

I am a University Student studying Library and Information Science, so i am also interested in studying knowledge sharing in an organizational setup, so my question is how can one access knowledge residing on people's  minds?

Hi Roberta,

I work for WSU, where access to policies and manuals of the type you are asking about is critical. Some observations on what works well at WSU:

1) the best organized websites within the University have a Forms/ Policies/ Manuals page where information is stored in pdf form for download and is organized, usually by title.

These are connected to the department (for example the Graduate School has all documents that pertain to graduate students with links to forms, policies, and handbooks organized alphabetically on their website. The internal grants submission team keep updated budget templates, standard forms, and grant submission policies and procedures on their website).

2) when new versions are released that have critical changes which impact common operations people will send a brief news article/ post in the internal WSU Announcements newletter. While these are dry, they help to highlight what has changed and what it means, and directs people to the the place to go to read more when the need to.

some improvements- it takes time to learn where to find this information when you enter the WSU system. WSU could do a better job and providing a kind of 'where to find it guide' for new hires. People figure it out, though but something to consider while you are starting a new system.

Best,

Kim
