Sounds great Nancy! First week of March for a US KM4DEV meeting sounds awesome!  When you have a date, let me know and I will plan it.  Are others up for a F2F in early March?

Hi Natalie - no plans to be in DC in the immediate future, although would love the opportunity for a trip. Will let you know if that happens. And do let me know if you are planning to be in NYC and we could organize an informal meeting with some of the KM4Devers here (mostly UN folks?)

This is a really interesting Ian, that UNICEF has positions dedicated to both the tacit and explicit knowledge parts of KM..and that they recognize there is a difference! I reluctantly work more on the recorded part, but prefer the tacit sharing FAR more. My experience is that most organizations are more comfortable with the documenting because they can see it and it feels real...but we know it is not successful on its own. Would love to hear more about your work! I mentioned to Ana Maria, that we try to get some of us together f2f in the states...maybe leveraging other meetings that we are attending. Do you have plans to be in the DC area any time?

Thanks for starting the group and kicking off the round of introductions.

I'm Ian Thorpe woring on Knowledge Management in UNICEF which is headquartered in New York.

I'm mainly focussing on the "tacit knowledge" parts of KM - in particular documenting and sharing of innovations and lessons learned from our programmes, fostering the creation and development of communities of practice (very new concept in UNICEF is well established elsewhere) and promoting the greater use of social media and other web 2.0 tools. I have other colleagues working more in the "recorded knowledge" side such as intranets, document management, access to e-journals etc.

Looking forward to future exchanges with you all.

Thanks for starting the intros Ana! Your job sounds amazing. It would be great to talk to you to share experiences. I am currently the Knowledge Manager for Community for an INGO based in DC. I am responsible for helping our different departments develop appropriate strategies for sharing their technical expertise with their colleagues across the globe. There are MANY challenges with trying to conduct virtual discussions for sharing of knowledge, but we do keep trying!

I think a meeting in the U.S. for managers like us would also be great! I wonder to start, if we might leverage an existing meeting that many are attending? For instance, Im thinking about the upcoming KM World Conference . Will you or other be attending? or do you know of other KM conferences?

Thank you Natalie! A round of introductions sounds great to went to know the group better. I am currently working as the Knowledge Management Facilitator for a development program that supports +12,000 communities around the world in their environmental projects. In that role I am creating the KM Strategy to connect our staff world wide -122 countries-, the communities we serve, key stakeholders and policy makers. I have more than 8 years of experience in communications and KM in the government, NGO and private sectors. I look forward to meeting fellow colleagues and contributing to the discussions, etc. BTW: A meeting in the US would be great.
