The QED Group, LLC (QED) may have need of a mid-level professional in the area of communications/knowledge management to join our Knowledge-Driven Microenterprise Development (KDMD) project with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). KDMD is a project dedicated to supporting technical offices within USAID to develop and implement innovative, creative, and effective ways to capture, share, and extend knowledge to others in the international development field to leverage best practice across USAID and its partners.

Through the KDMD project, the QED Team creates tools and opportunities for USAID microenterprise development partners and other practitioners to connect, share knowledge, and learn from each other to improve practice. QED established sophisticated, cutting-edge knowledge management and communications systems, including the award-winning microLINKS.org website and the PovertyFrontiers.org website under previous contracts with USAID.

QED is a fast-growing consulting firm that provides practical solutions to social problems through sound analysis, proven management techniques, and creative implementation. We work with public, private, non-profit, and international clients and customize solutions across a suite of services.

This position would report directly to the Chief of Party and would draw on and help guide a talented team of professionals working in the areas of traditional and digital communications, web development, event planning and production, facilitation, strategic planning, e-learning and other blended approaches to adult learning. The Senior K&L Specialist also will design and manage a dynamic portfolio of knowledge and learning activities, services, and tools across the KDMD project, piloting new approaches, consolidating our own best practices, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to USAID.

Duties and Responsibilities May Include the Following:

• Serve as the client manager with USAID’s technical teams;
• Stay abreast of industry practices through outreach and networking and continually infuse the KDMD team with new ideas and insights from others experience and key resources;
• Collaborate closely with KDMD team and identify opportunities to leverage activities, and create efficiencies and synergies;
• Lead the development of an online resource/community/space and create a learning hub on the project’s web portal for sharing knowledge about knowledge management in the development field, including the sharing of project best practices and lessons learned;
• Design a grant activity to solicit proposals from organizations to help them become continuous learning organizations;
• Provide advice and mentoring to KDMD staff on best practice in knowledge management and knowledge sharing;
• Design, support and facilitate online discussion forums and events;
• Develop annual work-plans collaboratively with the QED team and USAID;
• Organize and oversee project activities, ensuring the timely delivery of products and services and preparing the required project documentation and reporting;
• Support, coordinate and manage short-term technical advisors, vendors and/or consultants; and
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Party and Deputy Chief of Party.


Key Qualifications:

• 8-10 years experience, with preferably 5 years experience in knowledge management and/or related fields of knowledge sharing, peer production, organizational learning, strategic communications, etc;
• Experience with online communities;
• Experience with managing and developing web sites;
• High interest and some degree of experimentation with using social media and other Web 2.0 applications in a professional setting;
• Familiarity with approaches to E-learning and training;
• Facilitation (online and/or in person) skills;
• Excellent communication skills, including presentation, writing and editing skills;
• Event planning & logistics knowledge;
• Project management experience;
• USAID or development experience; and
• Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred.
• Authorization to work in the US required
