In 2011, SFCG launched a country program in
Madagascar in order to respond to ongoing concerns regarding the role of the
media, particularly radio, in exacerbating the current political crisis and
polarizing public opinion. Through journalism training, radio productions and
coalition building, SFCG aims to improve the quality of journalism, promote
social cohesion and provide accurate, reliable and objective information to the
public regarding their rights and responsibilities as well as the political
processes which affect them.
Under the supervision of the Country Director, the
Media Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all SFCG radio productions in
Madagascar, organizing capacity building of journalists, negotiating with radio
partners, identifying new opportunities for collaboration, and managing a
coalition of Malagasy journalists. The post is 12 months in duration and is
based in Antananarivo, with regular travel to other regions.
