SCOPE OF WORK

 

Save the Children seeks a qualified temporary employee to assist the Program Quality and Impact Department under the International Program Division to implement key knowledge management tasks.

 

TOPIC/TITLE:  Knowledge Management Intern

 

LOCATION: Washington, DC

 

START/END DATES OF WORK: Apr-May, 2014 (For a total of 2 months)

 

SALARY: $1000 per month

 

BACKGROUND:  Save the Children US’s knowledge management practices aim to build on what works well and to establish mechanisms for systematic collection, maintenance and sharing of program knowledge within and outside the organization.  There are a number of Knowledge Management (KM) efforts currently underway in Save the Children, and we are continually working to foster greater cross-functional collaboration, standardization, and sharing.   One of the KM initiatives is a project that is aimed to redesign, restructure and standardize SC US's sharing platform called SaveNet on a Microsoft SharePoint 2010 platform. The transformation project launched SaveNet 2.0 on October 31, 2013.  This project  included changes in the Top level navigation  restructured and streamlined pages,  standardized navigation buttons on department pages, standardized use of document libraries for technical resources, and standard content on department landing pages. Building on this momentum, the chief editors of respective departmental pages will continue to populate and update content.   The incumbent will closely work with the chief editors of the International Programs division and the Program Quality and Impact department as well as relevant pages on OneNet, the Save the  Children International SharePoint  platform to update pages and manage resources.    

 

TASKS:

 

Under the direction of the Senior Director, Monitoring and Evaluation and Knowledge Management , the incumbent will support knowledge management efforts for International Programs and Program Quality and Impact Department,  specifically for cross-cutting thematic areas.  Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:

 

  • IP resource page: Work with IP Executive assistant and chief editor of the IP/PQI pages to manage the resources and information already collected on IP approaches, tools and other research documents. Populate & publish an online IP library on SaveNet.

 

  • Urban Programming resource page: Work with the Urban Convener   to develop and populate with internal and external resources and information, an Urban program page on SCI OneNet.  Assist Urban staff to produce capability statements based on SC’s experience in urban programming. 

 

  • Gender resources page:  . Build an online, user-friendly resource library on SaveNet and contribute to the Gender SCI OneNet page.

 

 

  • Capacity Building resources. Manage the resources and information already collected on capacity building approaches, tools, and research documents. Build an online, user-friendly resource library on SaveNet.  

 

  • KM resources for International Programs. .    Build on the already started online, user-friendly resource library on SaveNet. Organize, sort, catalogue archived documents and those on shared driveConduct web searches for additional documents and add to the site.  Support on data collection for the KM dashboard.

 

  • M&E resources for International Programs. Build on the already started online, user-friendly resource library on SaveNet.   Organize, sort, catalogue archived documents and those on shared drive.    In consultation with the M&E specialist, continue to build and gather resources from other departments or external resources

 

DELIVERABLES AND INTENDED OUTCOMES: By the end of the employment period, it is expected that the employee will have completed the following activities:

  • Updated and expanded  content for IP and PQI’s cross cutting theme pages on SaveNet
  • A final report describing the results of the assignment and any suggestions for future site work. 

 

SKILLS NEEDED AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint and Publisher preferred
  • Some experience with and interest in the thematic areas described above, particularly with urban programming, gender, capacity building, organizational development, KM, or M&E preferred
  • Experience conducting web-based research
  • Strong communication skills, particularly writing for a broad audience
  • Analytical and highly organized

 

HOURS PER WEEK:  30 hours per week depending availability of the temporary employee.
