Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays an important role in improving agricultural productivity in the South. In order to become more competitive, farmers and rural enterprises need up-to-date information on the agro-supply chain including input supply, production technology, farm management, and market opportunities. However, there is no clear cut solution for farmers on how to use ICT – including web 2.0 and social media - in their work. The wide variation in agro-ecological, social and cultural conditions of farming communities lead to very specific information needs. How to meet these needs? What are suitable strategies for ICT development in the South as contribution to rural innovation?
These questions will be addressed during the seminar “ICT for Development: Innovation or Rural Information Systems” which is a joint initiative of WUR - CDI, Co-Capacity and CTA. Interested?
