Important research opportunities in gender, innovation systems and impact

The WorldFish Center is pleased to announce four new post-doctoral positions
for social scientists. Working jointly with a team of senior scientists,
these will provide cross-cutting support to a major new participatory
research program on poverty and vulnerability in aquatic agricultural
systems and in producing more animal source foods to reduce poverty and

The Innovation and Evaluation Specialist based at our headquarters in Penang
will be responsible for:

Carry out research to identify, understand and foster the mechanisms by
which AAS intervention triggers developmental change

Assisting the design, implementation and reporting of results-based
monitoring and evaluation in the Center’s work on aquatic agricultural
systems, including facilitating the implementation of participatory
processes for research design and management,

Providing support and professional advice to program collaborators on
participatory methods for program management, systems innovation and
monitoring and evaluation;

Facilitating exchange of knowledge on, and out scaling of, best practice
approaches in the areas of innovation, and monitoring and evaluation.

Together with the impact specialist, use excellent qualitative analysis
skills to monitor and analyze the organizational and stakeholder change
processes during program launch and implementation.

Publish the results of your research.


The Targeting and Impact Assessment Specialist, also in Penang will be
responsible for:

Carrying out research to identify, understand and foster the mechanisms by
which AAS intervention triggers outcomes and impact.

Assisting the center’s impact assessment leader design and implement a
program supporting targeting and impact assessment across the center’s
programs;

Together with the innovation specialist, using excellent quantitative skills
to design data collection and its analysis with modeling and econometric
approaches.

Coordinate with partners to share knowledge and best practice for targeting
and impact assessment

Publish the results of your research.


The Gender Specialist also in Penang will be responsible for:

Carrying out research to identify, understand and foster the mechanisms by
which Gender transformational research in AAS can be effective

Assisting the design, implementation and reporting of the Center’s
investment in gender, including issues related to gender equality,
empowerment, targeting, and social inclusion;

Strengthening the capacity of WorldFish and its partners to mainstream
gender in our work;

Facilitating exchange of knowledge on, and out scaling of, best practice
approaches in the areas of gender equality, empowerment and social
inclusion, and pro-poor targeting;

Publish the results of your research.


The Value Chain Specialist also in Penang will be responsible for:

Carrying out research to identify, understand and foster the mechanisms by
which value chains in AAS triggers developmental change

Assisting the center’s value chain leader in the design, implementation and
reporting of the Center’s cross cutting work on value chains
Strengthening the capacity of WorldFish and its partners to conduct value
chain work;
Facilitating exchange of knowledge on, and out scaling of, best practice
approaches in the areas of value chains
Publish the results of your research.



Candidates are sought with:

A completed PhD university degree in at least one of the following
disciplines:  Sociology, Social Anthropology, Gender in Development, Rural
Development Studies, Economics, Human Geography, or related fields;
optimally with several years of relevant experience in rural development in
developing countries.

Familiarity with different stages of the project/program cycle (design,
implementation, supervisions, monitoring and evaluation).

Strong quantitative and/or qualitative analysis skills

Strong academic publiction record

Demonstrated quality of judgment and the ability to think strategically,
assessing and responding to new challenges in rural development;

Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to lead and work in teams as
well as develop a close and effective working relationship with partners;

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, and the
ability to present coherent and convincing strategic analysis.

Ability to travel extensively
