IMA has a great KM course which we are having to run more frequently and in more places than before. It is great to see organisations taking KM more seriously.  I thought everyone might like to know we have confirmed our 4 day KM training in Bangkok 18-21 Oct as I know how annoying it can be if you apply for training and it does not go ahead. Participants at this training will be joining staff from Swiss Contact, WWF and SDC and others for an amazing learning journey. Contact us at for more information.  Thank you Sarah

Dear John,

I don't know whether you have found an answer to your question regarding the knowledge audit but I just want to share with you some of our experience on knowledge management experience audit.

First of all, as part of our training courses on capitalization of experience or programme of documenting experience for institutions, we always evaluate the knowledge management experience with criterias such as: vision and activities on documenting experiences, existence of multidisciplinary working groups, formal handing over document, evaluation mechanisms, sharing tools, existence of mechanisms for the identification, description and analysis of experiences. We evaluate the influence of policy based on experience outputs.

Also, we review the level of investment on research and development, partnership issues, communities of practices, knowledge sharing tools (study visits, internships, exchange of staff, etc.).

I hope that these information could be useful for your search of expertise on knowledge audit. If you clarify your understanding of knowledge audit and the level of application (organization, community, country or individual) we woul be more confortable in the identification of potential resource person that might be able to respond to your question.

Best regards

I see Knowledge Management as a need to change the command-and-control of all information-based organizations. This type of initiative is what the leaders of all information-based businesses must be able to achieve. As soon as a company takes the first tentative steps from the “data” to “information”, its decision processes, management structure, and even the way its work gets done begin to be transformed. It is very encouraging to see that most organizations are beginning to see the value of KM , and its becoming part of the curriculum for a number of Business Schools.
We are passionate about KM in Johannesburg South Africa. Under the stewardship of Judi Sandrock ( The Knowledge Management Practitioners Group was established : ( ) in Johannesburg and has since spread globally. The aim of the group is to share knowledge and experience of how practical knowledge sharing and management can be successful in all our different organizations.
